This Cookie Policy explains how CarBookingClub.com, operated by TravelOgent LLC, uses cookies and similar technologies, what each type does, and how you can control them. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal information more generally.
1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device when you visit a website. It lets the site recognise your device on later pages or return visits. We also use related technologies that work in a similar way:
- Pixels and web beacons — tiny images embedded in a page or email that record whether it was opened or viewed.
- Local storage — browser storage used to remember settings such as a recent search.
- Tags and SDKs — small pieces of code from analytics and advertising partners.
In this policy, “cookies” covers all of these. Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser; persistent cookies stay until they expire or you delete them. First-party cookies are set by us; third-party cookies are set by another company whose service appears on our pages.
2. Why we use cookies
- To keep the site working — holding your search criteria as you move between pages and through the booking flow.
- To remember your preferences, such as language, currency, and recent pickup locations.
- To keep the site secure and detect fraudulent or automated activity.
- To measure how the site is used so we can improve search results, page speed, and the booking process.
- To measure advertising and, where you allow it, show you relevant rental offers on other websites.
3. Categories of cookies we use
Strictly necessary
Required for the site to function. They support page navigation, form submission, load balancing, security, and the reservation flow. Without them, searches and bookings cannot be completed. These cannot be switched off through our cookie controls, though your browser can block them at the cost of a broken booking flow.
Functional and preference
Remember choices you have made — language, currency, recent searches, whether you dismissed a banner — so you do not have to set them again. Blocking these does not stop you booking, but parts of the site will feel less convenient.
Analytics and performance
Tell us which pages are visited, how visitors arrive, where searches are abandoned, and which errors occur. We use this in aggregate to improve the site. These cookies are set only where you allow them.
Advertising and targeting
Set by us or by advertising partners to measure campaigns, limit how often you see the same advertisement, and show rental offers relevant to your interests on other websites. They may build a profile of your browsing across sites. Under some state privacy laws, allowing these cookies counts as the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information; you can opt out at any time as described below and in section 9 of our Privacy Policy.
4. Third-party cookies
Some cookies are set by companies whose services we use, including analytics providers, advertising networks, our payment processor, live-chat and support tools, and embedded maps or videos. These partners set their own cookies under their own policies, and we do not control how they use the data they collect. We recommend reviewing the privacy and cookie notices of any third-party service you interact with through our site.
5. Managing your cookie choices
- On this site — where a cookie banner or preference control is shown, use it to accept or reject non-essential categories. You can return to it at any time to change your choice.
- In your browser — every major browser lets you view, block, and delete cookies, and offers a private browsing mode. Look under Settings → Privacy in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge. Blocking all cookies will prevent the booking flow from working.
- On your device — mobile operating systems provide an advertising identifier that you can reset or limit in the device privacy settings.
- Industry opt-outs — the Digital Advertising Alliance, the Network Advertising Initiative, and Your Online Choices offer opt-out tools covering many advertising networks at once.
Cookie preferences are stored per browser and per device, so a choice made on your laptop does not carry over to your phone, and clearing your cookies also clears the record of your preference.
6. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Browsers vary in how they handle Do Not Track signals, and there is no common industry standard for responding to them. Where our systems receive a recognised opt-out preference signal, such as Global Privacy Control, we treat it as a request to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for that browser.
7. Cookies in emails
Our marketing emails may contain pixels that tell us whether the email was opened and which links were clicked, so we can measure whether our messages are useful. You can prevent this by blocking images in your email client, or by unsubscribing using the link in any marketing email.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy as the technologies we use change. The revised version applies from the date it is posted on this page, and the “Last updated” date will change.
